Genealogy Research Sites Ancestry.com The premier fee-based service for finding records on-line and tracking your family history. It has been the primary tool that I've used to do my research. Familysearch.org Directed by the LDS Church, this is the largest collection of genealogical records in the world. They have a central library in Utah and many local family history centers throughout the world. I've used this site to track down immigration records from the 1700's. FindaGrave An on-line community providing transcriptions and photographs of grave markers. A free index of civil records in England and Wales. I personally assist in transcribing records for this group. It is a wonderful service provided that allows genealogists to find specific records. Rootsweb.com A wonderful way to connect to other genealogists and track down family history pedigrees or a distant cousin that you never knew about before! Genealogists contribute and share their family trees through Rootsweb which are also sent on to OneWorldTree. Vitalchek An express service for ordering birth, marriage, divorce, and death certificates in the United States. Very convenient, provided you already know the basic details to order a record. Organizing and Archiving Your Family History Family Tree Maker I use Family Tree Maker to track my family tree. You can use it to connect to the internet to find and even merge records into your family tree. It also allows to create a family history scrapbook and put together a family history book. Its automatic sourcing capability is also a great feature. GED-GEN This software allows you to convert a GEDCOM file of your family tree into an on-line web site. I find that it gives you the most options and features compared to another GEDCOM to web conversion software. Icehouse Pictures If you have old 8mm or Super 8 film, you should have it converted to DVD for preservation purposes! I have personally used Icehouse Pictures on a number of occasions and have been very pleased with their work. Light Impressions Direct A company that sells all kinds of archival materials for properly storing old family items. Miscellaneous Sites (things that have nothing to do with genealogy!) Michael Goodhart Photography A personal business that I own which revolves around one of my passions: photography!
